Debossing for Print Day in May

Alice Burns, Artist Northern Ireland. Greetings from Northern Ireland.
For print day I was hoping to have a monotype workshop, but that did not work out. So I printed this plate which was made by the Debossing technique. Mary Hood, Associate Professor, Printmaking, Herberger Institute of Design and the Arts, School of Art,Arizona State University: Tempe, AZ, came to my print workshop and gave a workshop in this technique. It is an interesting technique, in short the copper plate is Annealed to make it soft so that it can be debossed by the thinest of materials, even tissue paper. It can be difficult to ink the plates as there is little texture to grab the ink. I actually used a copper etching I had made to deboss this plate, the amount of detail that transfers is amazing. So this plate was made using a previously etched plate, thin silk fabric and some very tiny bits of grass. I really enjoyed learning this technique from Mary, if you have not done this before, give it a go. Copper plate, Akua Intaglio Ink, Japanese paper.
